Not unlike a beautiful
tiara or veil, wedding cake toppers have returned as the perfect way to cap off
the signature piece of your wedding reception.
A popular
method for putting a personalized touch on your wedding cake, toppers have come a long way from the days of
the plastic bride and groom. Some are elegant some are ornate. Some are
whimsical, some are caricatures. And some even play a favorite tune. Although
cake toppers, traditional as they may be, have become optional, they can also
be a great expression of your bridal style.
The
ornament or figurine placed atop your cake should also reflect your
individuality and complement the manner in which the rest of the cake is
decorated. You can choose from endless possibilities, from gum-paste or fondant
monograms, to decorations that mirror another wedding element.
Look
around - - there may be toppers that delight you, make you laugh or even play
misty for you. Some couples choose collectibles that later serve as sentimental
reminders, others even commission artists to render their likenesses in
polymer.
If you
have an heirloom piece - especially a fine porcelain antique - work with your
baker to integrate it into an appropriate design. Get feedback from your pastry
chef, but remember, ultimately the decision is up to you!
